The Ike Graduates of 1969 never did anything dumb, or did they?.  If you have a story to share send an email to Sueellenbradley@aol.com, and I will post your reason.  For instance, did you do something you hope your own children wouldn't or couldn't think up? No name necessary.  Surely Alan, Barb, Starla and I aren't the only ones!

I can think of lots of things I wouldn't want my kids to do that I did, if I had
kids, but the first "dumb" things that came to mind were wearing nylons with
garter belts, following the rule that said we couldn't wear pants to school in
sub zero weather, wearing incredibly uncomfortable hair rollers to bed !
I'm glad I lived through some of the dumber things I did and thank my guardian
angel for those. Barb

You see, that's what we want to hear about.  The things you did that turned your guardian angles hair gray!  I will post them annonymously if you like.

My oldest daughter was annoyed with me today, because I talked about an embarrassing time for her.  She asked me what I remembered as my most embarrassing moment. Well, I said, probably when I tried out for rally and the zipper on my shorts slowly made it's way down to the open position.  I didn't know until I sat down and everyone told me!  And then there was the time I was learning to drive.  I had my cousin Barbie H, and my boyfriend Steve Sweeney in the back seat. Very bad plan.  My Dad was sitting next to me, in my Grandmother's car which was a stick on the column, very hot, and I was turning the corner near the Ike baseball field.  The team was there practicing, as my birthday is in April.  Instead of stepping on the brake to turn, I stepped on the accelerator, and speeeeeded into the fire hydrant there on the corner.  I knocked it off it's footing and came to an abrupt halt.  All the players ran over to see if anyone was hurt.  I knew them all.  Now THAT was embarrassing.  They were all very sweet though and no one was hurt.  I'm sure I can remember more.

A dumb thing I remember is thinking we (me and Bonnie Good or was it Beth Maybry) could write "Sharon Davis is a sex fiend" on the walls of Carol Finney's office with the gymnastic chalk and not get in trouble....hmmmm - Live and Learn!!!

Starla

Sue: Get this foggy memory that popped in to my head.  Remember when you, me, Perry Lynch and Jodi Anderson went to the University of Oregon in Perry's car?  I think it was during spring break 1969.  Perry and I stayed with Melissa's brother Steve and some other Ike grads of about 1965.  I think Jodi and I drank beer during the drive to Eugene in the back seat.  Just think about the problems we would have had if stopped by the police, out of state, under age, no one to bail us out.  Perry and I were planning to go to the U of O and Perry did for 1 or 2 years.

Why did you and Jodi go with us?  Knowing what I know now, I would never have allowed any child of mine to go on such a trip, especially with the opposite sex to a college town for 2 nights that far away.

Do you remember this or am I dreaming?  Alan

I do remember that trip!  I  remember we missed  Eugene because we were drinking and that it didn't impress my brother Rick, whom Jodi and I were visiting!  We were really snockered when we arrived and he was MAD at me.  He graduated from the U of O.  It could be that we were with you because Perry was going to visit Rick's fraternity.  My parents separated for awhile and in 8th grade I attended junior high in Eugene for a year, so had friends there too.  My brother and I were close and probably wanted to take the opportunity to see each other.  Today.... we would be in deep trouble, and I said thank  you in my prayers many times that we made it in one piece, because Perry and I were drinking too, and he was driving.  But it was wildly  fun.  The French say si tu obeis toutes leg regles, tu manque tout les plaisirs.  Just don't do it too often

When remembering the Oregon trip I originally thought you and Perry were drinking also, but did not want to say as I could not remember if you drank, but knew Perry did.  What idiots!  I can't believe some things we all did!!  Larry Sherfey and I slept overnight in the Tahoma cemetery one summer after drinking beer.  We were going water skiing with Perry the next day and told our parents we were staying with Perry.

In the summer of 1966, when I had only my learners driving permit, Charlie McNeal and I pushed my mother's car from the garage in the middle of the night when she was out of town.    Charlie and I drove around Yakima at 2AM in the morning for awhile and went to a slumber party at a girl's house next to Steve Hatfield named Wally Juneau (remember her?)  Imagine what would have happened if we were stopped?  That same summer Steve and I were arrested at 2AM after Steve and I had snuck out of our houses during the night.  Steve was going with Sally and wanted to wake her up from her basement room.  Sally's neighbors called the police thinking we were breaking into Sally's house.  Our parents had to come to the police station to take us home, no charges.

If I had children, they probably would not have had any fun, because I think I would have thought of all the stuff they could do wrong and prevented it.  Alan

I was thinking of Uncle Jimmie this am. Remember him?  He had a birthday show.  You could go on TV on your birthday. I did it once.

When I was in Eugene, age about 14, 9th grade anyway, Gerri and I rolled my Dad's car down the drive way, and drove over to my boyfriends house.  My dad was at work, as was his mother, not a good thing  :).  We siphoned gas, and drove around for  hours, drove back into the driveway, and went to sleep.  The next day however, I felt so bad because I was supposed to be taking care of Gerri, and here I could have killed her.  Thank goodness I was a quick learner, never did it again, and it always came into my mind when I thought of doing something wrong.  Obviously, it didn't work but I did think about it.  Yes, Perry and I were drinking in the front seat, and we didn't even like each other.  It was definitely an arrangement of convenience.  I remember you lived with your Mom, but couldn't remember about your Dad.  He must have been so young.  We could all write a book

No one has mentioned Vantage?    Here is one about Vantage-

In the summer of about 71-72 Pat Jeffries and I took Carrie Arteel and some other hottie water skiing there.  Of course we drank too much beer.  When driving back across the river to go home, we lost our prop.  It was getting dark and we had no running lights and no power.  The wind and waves were picking up and I thought we would end up at the dam for the night.  The hottie said she could not swim, but with the waves and distance to shore, that was not an option.  Luckily, someone saw us and towed us to shore.    Just dumb luck this Vantage trip did not end up a disaster.  Alan J.

Near graduation time, a bunch of us felt very independent and racey, and planned a weekend at Vantage but didn't tell our parents how many people would be there. I can't say how many but I would guess 30.  I felt so grown up and indenpendent, being far from home, my parents not knowing what I was doing. We had a fire and beer.  We were in the middle of nowhere, in the sand dunes.  Suddenly, someone yelled, run the cops.  Now it was dark, and we were in sand, and it was very hilly.  I still remember that feeling of running and not getting anywhere and being glad of it, as I couldn't see what I was going to step on, or in, and again, thinking maybe this wasn 't such a good idea!!
