Let's have a pool to bet on how many more days it will take for the Revised Reville to take up 3 pages!!! Double prize if you guess who will count themselves in next.

Don't forget about Whitney elementary. I don't golf anymore but maybe Judy Penhallegon, Joe Sarchet, Rickie McCafferty, Steve Docter or Dick Hettinger do! There are many others- I'll have to refresh my memory by looking at the photo.

Don't forget Wilson Jr. High either.
Lots of Ike grads from across the street.

It'll probably take a couple of weeks to get a third page.
My Classmates page hits have doubled.
I'm trying to talk Dave Wear into posting more info so he's my guess.
Got an email from him today sounds like all's well in Virginia.

I can't believe there aren't more old pictures out there!  Scanning is such an awesome way to share.
Speaking of elementary school, I always thought Chuckie Glass had awesome hair.  Your mom must have had something to do with that.  Your picture with Uncle Jimmie looks just like I remember  you.
I wonder if Nob Hill has a website....

Reply

Chuck Glass on February 10, 2009 3:19 AM
No comment about the hair but if you look real close at the Uncle Jimmy photo you'll see that I had him autograph it at the KIMA 50th anniversary party.
I'm still looking for the Nob Hill class photos, which I swear I have somewhere.
It's making me look through boxes from last year's move.

Is there any interest in a side BAND reunion - maybe Saturday afternoon before the Country Club affair...???

I'd be happy to host something at my house and contact John Schactler to see if he'd be willing/able/interested in coming by...?

What do people think?

Hi Starla,
I'm still up for this and I'll send Ron McLain and Steve Emhoff emails to try to recruit them.
Other than those two I have no contact info for others unless we could send emails from Classmates.com.(I think they make you join to receive email)
Thanks for offering your place.
See ya'

Dance Halls- who remembers these places- The Downtown, KC Hall, the Armory, YMCA, St. Pauls church basement and last but not least the Gay Chateau!!  Did I forget any?    We all went to them to meet people from other schools and just to be cool.   I only remember one band- the Gentlemen Wilde- Frank Monaco the drummer I think, was my neighbor.

Hey Al-
You feeling better?
A lot of folks were disappointed at your absence last night.
Hope you are improving and can pace yourself on the links in the future.
Starla was ill also. Hmm........
Take care.

Hey Jay,
You really should have attended.
I know you don't like the exclusionary policies of Country Clubs but it was really a good time.
The clicquish reputation has to have gone way down.
Of the 150 or so attendees only four were rude to me for a high 90's approval rate, although one of those four managed to splash wine on me so she gets higher marks for a degree of difficulty.
Drop me a line once in a while and perhaps we can talk you into coming.
It really was fun to see people and know things were going well with their lives.

How about Merilee Rush? She played the Downtown, and one of our classmates played in a band called The Lost Souls.
Vern Palm. They used to drive around in an old Cadillac hearse.
I don't remember him being around after our sophomore year.
Then there was a short lived coffee house called the Electric Angel in the Wards shopping center.

Good memory Chuck!  Vern lived next to Frankie, all of us on 34th Ave., Gary Skov also.  Small world when looking back now.   Merilee was rumored to be the cousin of Bob Blumhagen.  Bob passed on in April 2009.

Randy Knowles was lead guitar of the Lost Souls.  Perhaps the biggest band to playthe Downtown was the Strawberry Alarm Clock.   Also can not forget the BFD Rubberband Plant from Selah. I perfected the art of sneaking into dances at the Downtown.

Kirk Strosahl said he couldn't comment on this page so I will try.

I remember the "Downtown" and the YWCA (Junior High).  Merrilee sang there.  Once we had a dance in the streets, near the Mall downtown.  I just remember seeing a bandstand in the parking lot.

One very fun memory, when I lived in Eugene, and was about 13, a band called the "Rolling Stones" were going to play at the University of Oregon.  My best friend and I snuck into the dance and saw the Rolling Stones playing in a gymnasium, playing Hey You!  We must have looked so young!!! My taste in music ran more to the Turtles  "There's a Kind of Hush"    :)

And Alan, I remember why Jodi wanted to go to Eugene.  Her brother lived there with his new wife, and we visited them.  She advised us "don't marry a guy just because his parents have money".  Well, I wondered why would you say that to his sister!!

Hi Chuck, Kirk just said he wasn't able to leave a comment, the website wouldn't let him.  He did have comments, one being he hopes we will have a reunion in 5 years instead of 10 more.  It's getting closer.  Imagine 5 more  years of comments. We hope to keep the website going after the reunion.  We'll post pictures and stories.

It is fun to see names and pictures of my Kindergarten classmates. For those of you who attended Martha Reif's Kindergarten, Mom is 97 years old, looks fantastic, uses a walker or wheel chair now; but after open heart surgery and 5 bypasses at 89, a stroke at 90, then, a broken hip, two breaks in her back, and various other surgeries within the last few years, she deserves to ride in style. Mind is still as sharp as ever!

With regard to the "Downtown", did not Mike Rabung win the contest to name the place?
I seem to remember that a classmate named "Mike" won the contest.
If fleeting memory serves me, he won a new Mustang!
It was dark in there and wasn't there a "disco ball"?
Is any of this true?
Frank Monaco's band was the "Gentlemen Wild".
Merrilee Rush went on to fame with "Merrilee Rush and the Turnabouts". (See Wikipedia for more info).

Vern Palm moved to Seattle and joined a band called the "Feelies".
Go to <pnwbands.com> and search under the 1960-1969 category.
On the PNWBands home page look to the left for a comment about the site by Jim Selzler.

Chuck,
Thank you for the note re Vern Palm. He had been a DJ in the Tacoma area.  He moved back to Yakima when illness struck.
A cardiac condition took him while living w/ his mother.
Rumor has it that Ron Peterson has also passed.

Al was teaching at Franklin when I last saw him in the early 80's.
Oddly enough he was my son's football coach.
That's kind of a cold lead but he may have ended up teaching his whole career there.
I haven't checked to see if they have a website.

I remember that contest at the Downtown and Mike Rabung did win a car, but I thought it was a vintage T-bird.
Not sure though.
You're right about Merilee Rush, and she still is active today.

Mike Rabung won a 57 T-Bird for finding a key to it. The contest was put on by a local radio station. They gave hints and he found it. He also got too drunk one day and he was on the Oregon coast and left the car on the beach and the tide came in. I don't know if he was able to save it after 12 hours in the salt water. Gary Poor

We will plan for a few extra spaces to register and the door.  I am updating the manager of the Country Club routinely now. If you aren't registered, and know you will be coming, please send me an email via this site, or call me at 206 842 7306. Thanks. Barb

Well the party was a lot better than I thought it would be as I haven't been to one until now. Barb and Sue thanks for your hard work. I was remembered by a lot more people than I dreamed would. 40 years from you all was a lot but it was well worth the trip up.
Thanks Karen for my first classmate hug. That meant a lot more to me than you know. Also Gail thank you for the first kiss , but really I was trying to get to your ear so you could hear me above the noise. I think I can use that move in the future on the women . (ha)
I apologize to all that I didn't get to either night to socialize with and will do better next time. It was a great time!
I would like everyones picture that was taken at the start Saturday with all of your permission of course and you are all welcome to mine if you would like.
I couldn't believe in some of the changes that nature brought about. I went through the guest list again with the yearbook and realized I knew more there than I acknowledged.

Hey Bill,
I remembered you when I saw your profile and looked for you but didn't catch up with you.
The evening went by so fast I just couldn't catch up with everybody I'd like to have talked to.
I'd see someone out of the corner of my eye and when I turned around they were gone.
Hopefully we can do it again in five years instead of ten.
We can always keep in touch via email from time to time.

Best wishes to you and yours.

Sorry missed reunion, will look forward to  a five year if I  am not to old ! Mike Rabung had a fifty five t-bird  as contest winner for Win something wild , sponsored  by Pepsi. We registered every day after school, filling out the insert in six packs of pepsi cartons. After numerous misshaps with car friends, his dad grounded him from car. It was up on blocks in our neighborhood for seemed like years. Don't know after 1970, I enlisted in Navy and lost track of Mike and car. Keith Sugden

His dad sold it to a neighbor, the car was black when Mike had it the guy who bought it had a lot of body work done and repainted a sky blue color(there used to be a paint and body shop on 48th & Nob Hill next to Jerry's donut shop where the work was done) and I believe I've seen it around, still has the same color. I believe it was a 1955 Tbird.

I confess I have been catching up on things at home. There is a lot of chatter on facebook Gary.  Do you belong there?  If so, become friends with the grads to hear their talk.
I do have more pictures to post.  Chuck Glass wants a copy of the 30 year reunion book.
Karen Osborn wants to organize a weekend get together next summer July 19 at the Gilbert Cellars.  Just show up.  There are several people who are in touch, and didn't get enough time to visit.  We will be in Yakima that weekend.  Everyone is welcome and we want to let people know.  Life is short,  have fun while you can.
Alan let me know that Sherri Kirk has passed away. I added her photograph, but it is different from the ones Karen has put on the memorial page. We will fix that.  She is in Portland this weekend.

Alan,
There's lots of lively conversation over on Facebook, which seems to be a wonderful tool.
My guess is lots of us will keep in semi-regular contact and the yearly get togethers at Gilbert Cellars can't be a bad thing.
I didn't attend any other reunions and now regret it.
I had a blast reconnecting with people I hadn't seen in 40 years and it's been great hearing from people since then.
Hell even cheerleaders have become facebook friends. Imagine that.:)
Hope you're feeling better and can attend subsequent events.
Happy trails,

I don't understand Facebook, there are too many friends and links.  I set up a Facebook account a few months ago, can't remember my password and comments come to me through my wife's account, I am too old to learn how to use it.  I will continue to use old fashioned email to communicate, I am just now getting good at it.

The yearly meeting is a different idea, I have not heard any other classes trying it.  It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Karen has created a group on facebook for the class of 69.  You could ask your wife to send a message to me or Karen Osborn, on facebook, to become our friend, and she could join for you, so you can read the conversations on there, from her name.  It must be a guy thing :)
